Psalm #3, After Sunset

Goodnight to the West—my sorrow is the moon.

Give me a heart of flesh, and take my heart of stone.

I know I’ve asked for less—that embers should wax cold.

Give me a heart of flesh, and take my heart of stone.

Vivisect my chest—crack the sternum bone.

Give me a heart of flesh, and take my heart of stone.

Hurt me, if you must—the East will come too soon.

Give me a heart of flesh, and take my heart of stone.
